Mapping Mediterranean Lands--A New Educational
Web Resource
The Council of American Overseas Research Centers
and the Digital Library for International Research program is very
pleased to announce the launch of "Mapping Mediterranean Lands"
a new educational web resource about maps from the Mediterranean
region at http://www.aiys.org/dlir/public/medmaps/MEDMAPS_site/MM_pages/index.htm.
This resource is designed for use by Grade 6-12 educators, college
and university educators, and students nationwide. It includes:
• A searchable Online
Union Catalog of library resources from the American Overseas
Research Centers including maps cataloged by this project
• An Inventory List
of maps at American Overseas Research Centers
• A Map Exhibition
with interpretive essays for sixteen selected maps, curated by a
noted cartographer scholar, Leonora Navari
• Lesson Plans for
Grades 6-8 and 9-12 with applicable National Council for Social
Studies (NCSS) standards
• An Educator’s
Page with tips for integrating this resource into classrooms
• Links to Web Resources for more information about Mediterranean
countries
"Mapping Mediterranean Lands" was created with the generous
support of the U.S. Department of State, Education and Cultural
Affairs program.
We are excited to share this new resource with you and expect it
to engage students in new ways as they study the history, geography,
and culture of the countries in the Mediterranean region. Please
feel free to explore other international resources in the Digital
Library for International Research, including Digital books from
Africa and a Photo Archive from the Center for Art and Archaeology
in India.
